5 Capitals directors have considerable expertise in the Water Industry as regulators and consultants spanning several decades which has included wastewater treatment, catchment planning, hydrological studies and water quality assessment of lakes, rivers and reservoirs in the UK, Caribbean and currently in Africa and Asia.  This has provided water-planning context for the assessment of major development projects in which the supply of potable water and the treatment of wastewater is often an integral part of the ESIA planning process.

During the past ten years, 5 Capitals has successfully undertaken environmental and social assessment of major water projects within the “IWPP Programme” (Independent Water and Power Projects) in Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries in the Middle East.  Desalination plants including Reverse Osmosis (RO), Multi-Stage Flash (MSF) and Multi-effect Distillation (MED) projects have been completed to FC totaling more than 2.5 million m3 water/day.  The environmental studies required for such projects have included assessment of internationally protected habitats such as coral reef, seagrass and mangrove and IUCN species including turtles and dugong.
